Geographic Adaptability Scenarios

1.High altitude and low temperature areas
● Scene characteristics: For example, in the Qinghai Tibet Plateau and Nordic regions, there is a large temperature difference between day and night (-40 ℃ to+30 ℃), strong ultraviolet radiation, and thin air, resulting in higher insulation requirements.
● Advantages of glass insulators:
No risk of embrittlement at low temperatures, stable mechanical strength (tensile strength ≥ 400 MPa);
Smooth surface reduces corona discharge (suitable for thin air environments);
Typical case: In the ± 400kV DC project in Qinghai Tibet, China, glass insulators are used for lines above an altitude of 5000 meters and can withstand an average of 200 days of freeze-thaw cycles per year.

2.Coastal and high salt spray areas
● Scene characteristics: For example, along the coasts of Southeast Asia and Southeast China, salt spray corrosion is severe, which can easily cause conductive layers on the surface of insulators.
● Advantages of glass insulators:
The glass surface has no pores, and salt spray cannot penetrate (compared to ceramics, which are more prone to moisture absorption);
The self-cleaning feature reduces salt accumulation and extends the operation and maintenance cycle by more than three times;
Typical case: The flashover failure rate of the 500kV coastal line in Zhanjiang, Guangdong decreased by 90% after the use of glass insulators.

3.Desert and arid regions
Scene characteristics: such as the Sahara Desert and northwest China, frequent sandstorms and severe temperature differences (daily temperature difference exceeding 50 ℃).
Advantages of glass insulators:
Resistant to sudden changes in high temperatures, with no risk of thermal expansion or cracking;
Surface hydrophobicity reduces sand and dust adhesion, combined with the "self grinding" characteristic of sand and dust to reduce pollution accumulation;
Typical case: The NEOM Smart City project in Saudi Arabia used glass insulators for desert power transmission corridors, reducing the annual cleaning frequency from 12 times to 2 times.
