Scenario of Power Grid Functional Requirements

1.Ultra/Ultra High Voltage Direct Current Transmission (HVDC)
● Scenario requirement: DC lines have extremely high requirements for insulators' resistance to pollution and ion migration.
● Glass insulator adaptation plan:
Adopting anti icing glass formula (surface coated with nano hydrophobic layer) to reduce ice bridging under DC electric field;
Typical case: The ± 800kV ultra-high voltage direct current project in Beautiful Mountain, Brazil, has glass insulators with a pollution resistance level of IV (the highest level), and a pollution flashover voltage 20% higher than that of ceramics.
2.Large span transmission lines
● Scenario requirement: The span of the cross river and cross canyon line exceeds one kilometer, and the insulator needs to withstand huge mechanical tension (such as the weight of the wire+wind load).
● Glass insulator adaptation plan:
Using double umbrella skirt structured glass insulators to enhance wind resistance and deflection ability;
Mechanical damage with a load of 530kN or more (equivalent to breaking 8 family cars);
Typical case: The 500kV cross sea project in Zhoushan, China, has a single span length of 2756 meters and a glass insulator string that can withstand a tensile force exceeding 400kN.
3.Smart Grid and Digital Monitoring
● Scenario requirement: Real time monitoring of insulator status (such as pollution level, mechanical stress) is required.
● Glass insulator adaptation plan:
Integrate RFID tags or stress sensors (embedded in steel feet) to achieve "alarm upon damage";
Typical case: Tennet, a German company, uses intelligent glass insulators to improve drone inspection efficiency by 70%.
