    Structure and materials

    U160BL2
    • Material characteristic

High-strength tempered glass is used, and its mechanical properties and resistance to thermal shock are improved through a heat treatment process.
It features a smooth surface with strong hydrophobic properties, making it difficult for dirt to adhere, and it exhibits excellent anti-pollution performance.
Zero-value self-explosion characteristic: If the glass insulator loses its insulation capability due to a fault, the umbrella disc will automatically burst, allowing operation and maintenance personnel to quickly identify the fault location.
    • Metal accessories

Cap&foot: Manufactured from hot-dip galvanized steel or aluminum, offering corrosion resistance, and securely bonded to the glass umbrella tray using cement adhesive.
Locking pin: A standardized design ensures a reliable connection for the insulator string.
    • Umbrella skirt design

The structure employs a large climbing distance anti-fouling umbrella skirt, featuring wide spacing between the umbrellas and a deep umbrella edge. This design effectively increases the creepage distance (typically ≥ 450mm) and suppresses arc and pollution flashover.
The umbrella shape has been optimized to prevent rainwater from forming continuous lines, thereby improving the wet flashover voltage.

    Characteristics of U160BP Anti-Pollution Insulators

    1. Ultra-High Mechanical Strength (160kN)
Rated Mechanical Load (SML): 160 kN (16.3 tons), capable of withstanding extreme mechanical stresses from conductors, wind loads, ice, and snow.
High Safety Factor: Designed with a safety margin of 2.5 times or higher to ensure reliability under harsh conditions (e.g., typhoons, ice storms).

    2. Superior Anti-Pollution Flashover Performance
Optimized Shed Design: Featuring large-diameter sheds, deep ribs, or alternating shed arrangements to increase the creepage distance (e.g., ≥31mm/kV), this design prevents pollution buildup and flashover.
Self-Cleaning Property: The smooth, hydrophobic glass surface enables rainwater to easily wash away contaminants, thereby reducing the need for manual cleaning.

    3. High Electrical Insulation Performance
Rated Voltage: Generally applied in 110kV–500kV lines (160kN indicates mechanical strength; voltage rating varies by model).
Lightning & Power Frequency Withstand: Lightning impulse withstand voltage is ≥1100kV, and wet power frequency withstand voltage is ≥550kV (specific values differ according to the standard).

    4. Environmental Adaptability
Extreme Weather Resistance: Functions in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +80°C, and is resistant to UV rays, salt fog, and industrial pollution.
Zero-Value Self-Destruction: In the event of puncture, the glass shell shatters, allowing for easy identification of faulty units during inspections (eliminating the need for manual testing).

    5. Long Service Life & Low Maintenance
No Zero-Value Testing Required: Glass insulators are free from internal defects, negating the necessity for periodic zero-value tests.
Service Life of ≥30 Years: The glass material resists aging, surpassing the typical lifespan of composite insulators, which is usually 20–25 years.

    6. Safety & Environmental Benefits
No Hidden Defects: Manufacturing defects, such as bubbles and cracks, are easily detectable, ensuring reliability.
Recyclable: Glass and metal components can be separated and recycled, minimizing environmental impact.

    Typical Applications
HV/EHV Transmission Lines: Including 220kV and 500kV towers, particularly in heavily polluted areas (Class III/IV).
Long-Span Projects: Involving river crossings or mountainous terrain that necessitate high mechanical strength.

    Selection Considerations
Voltage Rating Matching: A 160kN rating signifies mechanical strength; ensure the model's voltage rating matches (e.g., FXBW-160kN/110).
Pollution Class: Choose the appropriate creepage distance according to GB/T 26218 or IEC 60815 standards.
Characterized by its high strength, reliability, and low maintenance requirements, the 160kN anti-pollution glass insulator is the ideal selection for high-voltage transmission lines in areas with pollution.
